We follow AP Style for numbers in most cases.

  • Spell out numbers one through nine
  • Use numerals for 10 and above

This also applies to ordinal numbers:

  • first through ninth
  • 10th and above

For big numbers, use a numeral and a word:

  • 1.6 million people
  • $2.7 million
  • 5 cents

For amounts under $1 million, use the dollar sign:

  • $17
