The 477 Plan Directory geographically displays each 477 Plan and the Federal programs integrated into it. It also visually maps the location of each Tribe/Tribal organization within BIA’s 12 regions and provides contact information for each Tribal leader, along with other visual data.
Public Law 102-477, commonly known as “477,” is the Indian Employment, Training and Related Services Demonstration Act (25 U.S.C. 3401 et seq). Enacted in 1992, it has been amended twice: once in 2017 by Public Law 115-93 and again in 2000 by Public Law 106-568. Its main goal is to reduce administrative time and costs for Federally Recognized Tribes and Tribal organizations. 477 is unique among federal legislation because it allows Tribes to consolidate and reallocate program funds from twelve federal departments to deliver workforce development and job training programs and services more efficiently. Tribal participation in PL477 is voluntary and requires only a single annual report, thereby providing greater support for job placements and case management activities.
