Job Placement and Training

Originally authorized by the Indian Adult Vocational Training Act of 1956, as amended, Job Placement and Training (JP&T) programs may be administered by the BIA or a Tribe. In support of self-determination, the BIA encourages Tribes to provide services directly by entering into a Public Law 93-638 contract or compact. Federal funding aims to provide individuals with vocational training, including vocational counseling or guidance, institutional training in a recognized vocation or trade, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training to improve job skills and increase employment opportunities.
