Millions of people visit Indian Country every year, and indigenous tourism contributes billions of dollars to the U.S. tourism industry annually.

The Office of Indian Economic Development (IED) is working to fulfill the mission of the NATIVE Act through its partnerships with the George Washington University (GW) International Institute of Tourism Studies and the Pamplin College of Business at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech)

The two universities are working with IED to provide technical assistance to tribes in the areas of tourism planning, management, and product development. IED hopes the holistic approach to tourism development established by GW and Virginia Tech can be replicated throughout Indian Country and support other economic initiatives.
