Solar

Interconnecting a Photovoltaic (PV)/Wind Electric System includes devices and systems that generate electricity and include devices that store distributed energy, e.g., batteries. SCIP has developed this process guide to help you with what needs to happen before your system can be energized. If you have any questions, please contact SCIP at (520) 723-6209 opt. 3 or scipsolar@bia.gov.

Step 1 - Application and Preliminary Approval

Customer completes and submits the interconnection agreement (ICA). Please include Solar Company's site plan design and diagram. Once SCIP receives the interconnection agreement, SCIP will review the ICA, site plan diagram and design for completeness. San Carlos Irrigation's regulation:

  • 10 KWDC is the maximum limit.
  • Any type of adapter and/or sleeve component shown to be installed with meter is not accepted.

Step 2- Design Review

SCIP will review and either request revisions or approve the interconnection agreement then the system can be installed.

**If the service meter panel is to be upgraded then a new construction is needed, an application for upgrade will need to be completed and submitted by the customer. Upgrade" meaning change of service panel amperage or voltage and/or the existing service panel is to be relocated. (Design for upgrade or construction - up to 16 weeks)

The project will be assigned to a SCIP design consultant.

Step 3- Installation

Upon receiving approval to proceed by SCIP, the installer (Solar Vendor) may proceed with installing the solar PVSystem.

After the solar system has been built, the installer provides SCIP the required Green Tag from the city or county indicating that the system has passed inspection.

Step 4 - Final inspection and PTO

Installer will provide notification that the PV-System is ready for Final Inspection via scipsolar@bia.gov.

Installer and customer will receive email notification that the Final Inspection has been scheduled. An email will be sent to the installer and customer of the results.

Upon successful completion of the Final Inspection, SCIP will issue "Permission to Operate" letter to the installer and Customer and install a new meter.

  • For your safety, do not operate the system prior to receiving PTO
