BIA statement on reassumption of Red Lake family and children services

To ensure the safety and well-being of children and families, the Bureau of Indian Affairs has reassumed immediate operations of family and children services on the Red Lake Nation. Throughout this process, our highest priority has been the safety and protection of the tribal members, especially those most vulnerable.

BIA staff are in place to immediately support the transition and ensure continuity of services. Our team is working to provide stability for children and families while maintaining the essential services and protections they rely on.

We understand that any transition involving child welfare and related services can be challenging for families and the tribal community. BIA is committed to carrying out this responsibility with care, professionalism and respect for tribal sovereignty, while keeping the best interests of children and others who are unable to advocate for their wellbeing at the center of our efforts.
