Jason M. Bruno is the deputy assistant secretary for management for Indian Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior. He provides executive leadership over budget, finance, human capital, acquisition and facilities, and serves as a senior adviser to the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs. He oversees efforts to modernize administrative operations and ensure effective stewardship of resources across the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Indian Education and the Bureau of Trust Funds Administration.
Bruno previously served as director of the Office of Self-Governance, where he oversaw negotiation of self-governance compacts and funding agreements. As awarding official, he managed more than 150 funding agreements serving over 300 tribes and tribal entities and facilitated the addition of nine tribes to the self-governance program.
A career federal employee, Bruno has held senior roles within the Department of the Interior in the Bureau of Trust Funds Administration, the Office of the Solicitor and the Office of Historical Trust Accounting, as well as at the Department of Justice.
He earned a law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2000. A former amateur boxer, he won the North Carolina Golden Gloves and the U.S. Southeast regional championship in 1999. He has coached youth basketball for more than 15 years.
