Biography
Anna Smith serves as the Acting Director of the Office of Human Capital Management, where she oversees strategic human capital, workforce planning, human resources operations, performance management, and personnel security across the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In this role, she provides leadership to ensure a skilled, diverse, and mission‑ready workforce that aligns with the goals of Indian Affairs.
She began her federal career in 2005 and has more than 19 years of experience in federal human resources management. Her career includes service with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Indian Education, Veterans Health Administration, and Indian Health Service. Her leadership background includes roles as the BIA Recruitment Center Director for the Southwest, Navajo, and Western Regions; Human Resources Officer for BIE; Client Services Director for the Indian Health Service’s Oklahoma Area; and currently, Human Resources Officer for BIA Central Operations.
Anna is an enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe and is also of Comanche and Choctaw descent. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Legal Studies at the University of Oklahoma.
