BIE Leasing and Fundraising Rule (2016 Efforts)

This page relates to 2016 efforts to develop a regulation on leasing of BIE-operated school facilities and fundraising activities at BIE-operated schools.  For current efforts, please go to  this webpage.

The Director of the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) was authorized by Congress to enter into agreements with third parties to lease the land or facilities of a Bureau-operated school in exchange for funding that benefits the school. The Department of the Interior plans to host two consultation sessions on the proposed rule. Additional information on the proposed rule is provided in the following PowerPoint: Leasing of BIE-Operated School Facilities and Fundraising Activities at BIE-Operated Schools.

The consultation sessions are as follows:

The Department will also be hosting a listening session on the proposed rule at 3:00pm (local time) on Monday, June 27th, 2016 in Spokane, Washington, in conjunction with the National Congress of American Indians mid-year conference.
