Overview

The Deputy Regional Director for Indian Services serves as the designated official for maintaining and discharging the trust responsibility of the Secretary of the Interior through public laws and restricted requirements concerning Housing, Human Services, Tribal Government, Self-Determination Services, Transportation and Economic Development.

The Deputy Regional Director for Trust Services serves as the designated official for maintaining and discharging the trust responsibility of the Secretary of the Interior through public laws and restricted requirements concerning individually owned native allotments. She works closely with the Regional Trust Administrator to administer trust asset management activities within the region. She is responsible for budgeting, program planning, and developing mutual relationships with Natural Resources and Real Estate Services groups. The Deputy Regional Director for Trust Services works closely with tribal governments, Native American leaders and organizations. Specific programs under the purview of the Deputy Regional Director Trust include Real Estate Services, Land Title and Records, Forestry and Wildland Fire, Energy and Minerals, Environmental Cultural and Safety Management and Archeology.

The Southwest Region encompasses a dynamic and diverse mix of Tribes, Tribal members and natural resources. 67,456 Tribal members make up the 24 Tribes and the Ramah Navajo Chapter of the Navajo Nation under the Southwest Region. Tribes are located in New Mexico, Colorado and Texas and encompass 4,869,744 acres of land.

Within that area the Southwest Regional Office (SWRO) is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There are agencies under the SWRO located in various locations within New Mexico and Colorado and they are the Jicarilla Agency (Dulce, NM), Mescalero Agency (Mescalero, NM), Northern Pueblos Agency (Espanola, NM), Ramah Navajo Agency (Ramah, NM), Southern Pueblos Agency (Albuquerque, NM), Southern Ute Agency (Ignacio, CO), Ute Mountain Ute Agency (Towaoc, CO) and the Zuni Agency (Zuni, NM). The hours of operation for all locations are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
