Dan Galvan

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Management

Dan Galvan, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, serves as the Indian Affairs acting deputy assistant secretary for management, providing executive leadership for budget, finance, facilities, information technology, and human capital, and advising the assistant secretary for Indian Affairs.

Dan is a senior federal leader with extensive experience advancing programs and infrastructure for Indian Country. He previously served as the acting BIA Northwest Region director, overseeing more than 400 employees and leading federal trust and treaty responsibilities for 47 tribes. His earlier roles include special assistant to the deputy bureau director for field operations, where he strengthened regional coordination and aligned national priorities across BIA.

Before rejoining BIA, Dan led major capital programs in the GSA Arctic/Northwest Region, managing a 7.5-million-square-foot federal portfolio and launching a $600 million program office for new land ports of entry. From 2016 to 2020, he served as division chief for Facilities Management and Construction, where he institutionalized the Site Assessment and Capital Investment program and expanded the use of self-governance agreements to empower tribes in delivering construction projects.

A graduate of West Point, Dan is a retired U.S. Army officer with over 15 years of service, including combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He holds a master’s degree in civil engineering and resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with his family.
