The Indian Affairs Emergency Management Council provides executive oversight and performance accountability and ensures wide strategies and initiatives are developed collaboratively and implemented consistently across bureaus and programs within Indian Affairs. It is responsible for supporting Bureaus with the resources necessary to prepare for and respond to mission continuity and emergency response activities.

Purpose

In preparing for emergencies and effects of natural disasters, Indian Affairs is responsible for understanding emergency response needs, capabilities, shortfalls and programmatic goals to ensure effective coordination across the Office of the Assistant Secretary - Indian Affairs (AS-IA), BIA, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), and Bureau of Trust Funds Administration (BTFA) in order to eliminate redundancies, share resources, provide consistent and timely communications, and ensure Bureaus have the necessary resources, training, and capacity necessary to provide effective leadership for incident response.
