  • What is DOI Learn?

    • DOI Learn is the Department of the Interior's online learning management system that allows Indian Affairs employees to take required online training, enroll in elective online and instructor-led courses and submit external training requests (SF-182s.) DOI Learn is available 24 hours a day and can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection.

      New Federal employees or their supervisors: include your full name and the organization or office you work under.

      New contractors or their supervisors: include your full name and the organization or office you work under, as well as the name of your company.

      New tribal employees contracted with Indian Affairs: include your full name, the Agency or Region you are contracted with (if applicable) and your tribal affiliation.

      New Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) Contract/Grant school employees: include your full name and the name of the school work for.

    • Resetting Your Password or Retrieving Your Username

      To reset your DOI Learn password, use the Forgot Your Password? link to have DOI Learn e-mail you your username and a temporary password.

      If your account is locked or if you encounter issues with the temporary password, you can contact the 24-hour DOI Learn Helpdesk at 866-466-1998 or doilearn@sumtotalsystems.com.

      If your account is inactive or is not attached to a working e-mail address, you can contact DOILearn@bia.gov to request a reactivation or password reset.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

    • How do I print a training completion certificate?

      • The "Print Completion Certificates: Required Training" icon found on the DOI Learn "Home" tab

        To print certificates for your required training, click the Print Completion Certificates: Required Training icon in the My Home tab of DOI Learn.

        Required training is training that has been assigned to you by a supervisor or administrator.

      • The "Print Completion Certificates: Elective Training" icon found on the DOI Learn "Home" tab

        To print certificates for any elective training, click the Print Completion Certificates: Elective Training icon in the My Home tab of DOI Learn.

        Elective training is training that you have self-enrolled in.

      • Tip: If your completion status doesn't update in DOI Learn after closing a course window, try reloading the course page to make it appear.
      • Tip: If a course has a green message banner under its title, it is in review mode. Courses that you have already completed will open in review mode, which allows you to review content but not retake it and recieve a new completion date. If you need a course re-assigned so it can be retaken, contact DOILearn@bia.gov.
      • Tip: Very rarely, an online course can fail to report its completion back to DOI Learn. If this happens, contact DOILearn@bia.gov to have an administrator investigate the issue and record your completion.
    • How do I update my DOI Learn profile?

      • The "Update My Profile" icon found on the DOI Learn "Home" tab

        To update your profile, click the Update My Profile icon in the My Home tab of DOI Learn.

        Some fields, like office and Bureau information, can't be updated by users. To have these fields updated, contact DOILearn@bia.gov.

    • How do I set my supervisor?

      • The "Update My Supervisort" icon found on the DOI Learn "Home" tab

        Click the Update My Supervisor icon to update your supervisor or training approver.

      • Tip: On the supervisor search page, searching for your supervisor by their e-mail address is usually the fastest way to find them.
      • Tip for Supervisors: Supervisors are logged in by default in the Supervisor user role, which can't be used to update supervisor information. Use the Role dropdown at the top of the page to switch to the Learner role before trying to set your supervisor.
    • What are the steps for requesting training?

      1. Search for the training
        • The Catalog icon found on the DOI Learn "Home" tabClick on the catalog icon.
        • Once on the course catalog search page, enter the name of the course or the topic you are looking for.
        • Be sure to use the available search filter fields to make sure you get the most relevant results.
        • Once you have found the course, click on it to go to the Scheduled Classes page.
      2. Submit a training request
        • On the Scheduled Classes page, select the class session you want to attend and click Submit Request.
        • Click Begin on Submit Learning Request Intro page.
        • Select the DOI Employee Training Request form on the Select a request form and click Next.
        • On the Request Fields page: in the Is this course part of your IDP? dropdown, indicate whether or the course you are applying for it part of an Individual Development Plan developed by you and your supervisor.
        • Select a payment method from the Method of Payment dropdown.
          Important: DOI Learn does not process payment for training. If payment is required, follow the instructions included in the class details.
        • Click Next to continue. On the Confirm Information Entered page, review your learning request information and then click Save.
      3. Get approval from your supervisor
        • When your training request is sucessfully saved, your supervisor will recieve a request for approval.
        • Once your supervisor approves the request, the process is complete and you are enrolled in the class.
    • What are the steps for requesting external training?

      1. Search for the training
        • Make sure you have searched the DOI Learn catalog to confirm that the course is not available in DOI Learn.
        • The "External Training Request" icon found on the DOI Learn "Home" tabClick on the SF-182 link below the External Training Request icon.
        • Fill out the electronic SF-182 form with the course and vendor information.
      2. Get approval from your supervisor
        • When your training request is successfully saved, your supervisor will receive a request for approval.
        • Once your supervisor approves the request, the the course will appear on your transcript, but will not be marked complete.
      3. After attending, have your supervisor mark the training completed
        • The "Mark Training Complete in the Gradebook" icon found on your supervisor's "My Employees" tabWhen the training is completed, have your supervisor log in to DOI Learn, go to the My Employees tab, and click the Mark Training Complete in the Gradebook icon.
        • In the gradebook, they can open your gradebook information, select the name of the training you requested, and then click Mark Completed to record your completion.
      4. Verify that you have completed the training
        • The "Validate Training Completions" icon found on the DOI Learn "Home" tabAfter your supervisor has marked the training completed, log in to DOI Learn and click on the Validate Training Completions icon.
        • Once you have filled out the training validation form, the process is complete.
    • How do I approve training for my employees?

      1. Click the My Employees tab in DOI Learn.
      2. The "Approve Training Requests" icon found on the DOI Learn "Home" tabClick the Approve Training Requests icon.
      3. Click on the name of the course you want to approve.
      4. Review the training request details, then click the Approve button.
    • How do I cancel an instructor-led course?

      1. In your My Learning widget, click the name of the training you want to cancel.
      2. Click the Drop Class button.
      3. Important: DOI Learn is not used to coordinate payment or refunds for training. If you are cancelling attendance at a DOI University course, e-mail DOIUonline@ios.doi.gov to inform DOIU of the cancellation and arrange a refund or credit.
